This is a list of adoption links that adoptive parents have used while going through the adoption process or since returning home or have been mentioned during one of our adoption telecourses or webinars.  If you have some other links you would like to share, please send send us an e-mail and I’d be happy to post them.

Adoptive Family Support Information:

  • Families with Children from China
    • Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page for lots of good information on Chinese culture, Chinese adoption studies, adoption agencies with Chinese programs and growth charts as well as to find local chapters.
  • Families for Russian and Ukrainian Adoption
    • Best source for Russian and Eastern European adoption information and support. Has a great chat (discussion group) where you can ask all kinds of questions on all aspects of adoption.
  • Latin American Parents Association
  • Korean American Adoptee Adoptive Family Network
  • Comeunity
    • Provides parent to parent support on international adoption, special needs adoption, how-to-adopt information, adoptive parenting information, etc.
  • Eastern European Adoption Coalition
    • Great support groups for all aspects of Eastern Eurpoean adoption. Very informative.

International Adoption Medical Experts:

General Adoption Information:

    • A list of adoption resources started by an adoptive mother a number of years ago.
  • Celebrate Adoption
    • Has a list of notaries by state who offer their services free to those adopting (Robin Bartko is one of them). Click “notaries” near the bottom of the navigation bar on the left.  Also has a good selection of adoption related gifts.
  • Karen’s Adoption Links
    • A wealth of information about adoption in general with many links to other web sites and discussion groups as well as a list of orphanage addresses.
  • US Department of State Bureau of Counselor Affairs
    • The definitive web site to check on the status of a country’s adoption program (is the country currently “open” for adoption?).

 Parenting Information and Support:

  • Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E)
    • An excellent resource for both adoptive parents and adoptees, C.A.S.E. is a private, non-profit adoptive support center with offices in Maryland and Virginia.
    • The source for additional information on Dr. Thomas Phelan’s “1-2-3 Magic” parenting solutions for child discipline challenges. We’ve found the video clips on the site to be especially useful in understand the “1-2-3 Magic” approach, and highly recommend the “1-2-3 Magic” DVD.

 Sensory Integration:

  • Out Of Sync Child
    • Carol Stock Kranowitz provides a significant amount of additional information on Out of Sync Children including examples, listings of workshops and presentations, and additional resources.
  • Sensory Integration Focus Magazine
    • A resource for parents and professionals who want to stay informed regarding how to improve sensory integration and how to address sensory processing deficits and disorders.  Carol Stock Kranowitz is the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Sensory Resources
    • Good source of resources on sensory integration including books, audio and video, as well as workshops on sensory challenges.
  • The SPD Network
    • Probably the primary internet site for parents, teachers, therapists, doctors, and others to learn about and understand Sensory Processing Disorder (which is now more commonly called Sensory Integration).  Hosts the SPD Resource Directory, a nationwide listing of people and services that are experienced in working with people with Sensory Processing Disorder.

 Attachment in Adoption:

  • Association for the Treatment and Training in the Attachment of Children (ATTACh)
    • Source of information and resources for children with attachment challenges. Dr. Lark Eshleman is currently serving on the board of directors.
  • Institute for Children and Families
    • A leading national center for treating children who suffer from the lasting effects of early trauma or from serious and destructive breaks in the bonding or attachment process between child and parent.  Lark Eshleman is the Director.
  • Maya Wrap

  • The Theraplay Institute

  • Lucy’s Little Ones
    • Founded by Roger and Dawn Choate (Dawn presented “Healing Hannah” on, raises needed funds for projects involving orphans or children in need in China. Focuses on providing surgeries, supplies, programs and services, and raising awareness about the plight of the orphans and adoption. 

 Adoption Travel Support:

    • Useful currency converter that you can use to convert between Russian Roubles, Chinese Yuan, Guatemalan Quetzal,  Kazakhstani Tenge, etc. and US Dollars.
  • Time and
    • Provides the time and date for locations around the world, and includes a “meeting planner” that is useful if you or your loved ones are trying to determine the best time to call you when you are traveling.
